On Friday mornings, from 9:00 to 9:50 a.m., the school dedicates time to Carbon Literacy. The Sustainability Lead provides all resources for these sessions, which are designed to be interactive and aligned with the theme for that term. For example, during the autumn term, pupils focused on reducing energy consumption across the school. These sessions introduced fundamental concepts such as what energy is, how it affects the planet, and practical actions pupils can take to reduce their energy-related carbon footprint.

Pupils participate in a range of activities, including short quizzes, videos, and structured discussions. They consistently demonstrate enthusiasm for learning about climate change, environmental issues, and ways they can “help keep the planet healthy.”

The Carbon Literacy programme has had a notable impact, with many pupils now confidently making cross-curricular links between their learning in these sessions and subjects such as Geography and Science.

Teachers are highly supportive of the Sustainability Team and actively promote the Carbon Literacy sessions across the school.
